PQI to showcase four new SSD products at CES

PQI will be displaying its full range of Solid State Drives at the upcoming CES 2009. The latest models include a 1.8” microSATA SSD S518, a 2.5” SATAⅡ SSD S525, an e-SATA Combo Card S530, and an Express Card SSD S520 which utilizes PCI/E slot and PQI’s patented Intelligent Stick Interface, giving users the option of using it as a USB flash drive or to extend storage capacity through PCI/E slot.

First International Computer, which is affiliated not only with VIA but as well as Everex, has itself submitted to the FCC, a 10.4" 1024 x 600 1.6GHz Atom mini-notebook. The FIC CW001 Mini-note also features 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth, up to 2GB of DDR2 RAM, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, 2.5" SATA II HD, 2 USB 2.0 ports, a single ExpressCard slot, Intel's 945 GSE graphics, a 4-in-1 multicard reader and a 4-cell Li-ion good for around 4.5 hours of battery life, and a Windows-based OS. Interestingly it also has an optical drive.

Android netbooks on their way

Venture Beat freelance writer Daniel Hartmann took four hours of work to port Google's Android operating system to the Asus Eee PC 1000H as shown above. He managed to get nearly all the hardware (including graphics, sound and WiFi) running.

The implications are immense. Netbooks (and basically other PCs) are a billion dollar market. An open source Google-backed Android (and the Chrome web browser) can certainly be enticing not only for hardware manufacturers but for software developers. Android may yet succeed where Linux failed in making an impact in the market, especially in the netbook segment.
