Getting a refund for pre-installed Windows

A blogger named uncle_benji has chronicled in his blog, equiliberate, how he was able to get a USD200 refund from Hewlett Packard by refusing to agree to the End-user License Agreement for the pre-installed Windows Vista on his new HP dv6815nr.

It took several phone calls and some email messages but he has proven it can be done. While this may theoretically apply to the Asus Eee PC's Windows XP, I seriously doubt if anyone will be able to successfully obtain a refund from Asus. First of all, there is the Xandros version that is readily available. Secondly, Asus' customer support department is, shall we just say, not like HP's customer support department.
