Laptop Mag's MSI Wind (Win XP) Review

Laptop Mag has reviewed the MSI Wind Windows XP model and has given it 4.5 out 5 stars. Highlights of the review -

(You can read the full specifications here.)

Physical unit - Low-luster finish is resistant to fingerprint smudges while the size is small enough to fit an oversized handbag/slim briefcase At 3.4 lbs with the AC adapter, it was hardly noticeable.

Keyboard - close to full-size, matte keys offer springy feedback. Touch typists should have no problems even for extended periods. But the 2.0x1.7" touchpad is disappointingly small and its single bar is less than ideal.

Large Display - the 10" 1024 x 600 display is much easier on the eyes than the typical 7" or 8.9" screens of subnotebooks.

1.3MB webcam - works well in Skype video chat. However the microphone picked up a bit of background noise. However, using a headset solved the problem.

Performance - the MSI Wind outperforms other system in its class. Boot-up time is 34 seconds. While not for 3D gamers, the graphics performance is still better than similar systems. The Wind includes a TurboDrive button, which overclocks the CPU by as much as 20% when plugged in.

Battery life - Reviewer at 5:30 hrs with WiFi turned off, with WiFi turned on, the battery lasted just over 4 hours.

WiFi - connected easily to WPA-protected access point. The radio managed 14.5 Mbps, and 7.7 Mbps from 50 feet away.
