Is this a netbook because of long battery life/low electrical use? Both price and size disqualify it I think.

H CristobalDeLicia,

Netbooks have developed so rapidly that these days that both size and pricing have large gray areas for what would be acceptable.

Netbooks are so named because they their primary function is supposedly to connect to the Net for cloud computing. Price was initially a driving issue (i.e. Asus Eee PC's originally announced price of $199) but we have since seen netbooks priced substantially higher.

Size was (and still is) a consideration since mobility is integral to the netbook's concept. However with lighter materials being used now, the correlation of size to weight has been reduced so now a larger size doesn't necessarily translate to a heavier weight. So now we have 11", 12" models that compares favorably with small models as far as weight is concerned.

So is the Samsung N510 a netbook? Some purists will obviously disagree. Others will argue it is. The model does push the envelope insofar as definitions go.

Do I consider it a netbook? Not if we go by the original definition. But like most technological labels these days, the definition is dynamic. Just as we refer to a Core Duo 2GHZ, 4GB, 320GB HD desktop as a PC, the same term we had used in referring to an IBM PC 8086 4.17MHz, 64K RAM, 1 FDD back in 1981, we use the term netbook quite dynamically.
