According to PC World Acer's shipments of its Aspire One could reach 6 million units this year, which would edge out Asus's projected 5 million shipment of its Eee PC for the same period. The situation does not bode well for Asus as the Aspire One was only announced this June while the Eee PC has been available since October of last year.
Asus has recently projected 4Q Eee PC shipments at 1.6 million to 1.8 million units, compared to 1.7 million units in Q3. Aspire One shipments, on the other hand, has reached 2.4 million units in Q3 and 4Q shipments is expected to exceed that. Acer expects to ship 12 to 15 million Aspire Ones next year.
