Asustek Eee PCs to push down ASPs of notebooks, UMPCs and other portable digital devices

From Digitimes posted Friday 7 September 2007 -

The entrance of the Asus Eee PC into the notebook market is likely to push down the ASPs (average selling prices) of notebooks and other portable devices such as UMPCs.

With its price advantage, Asus expects its Eee PCs to make headway into the consumer notebook segment starting H2 08 with total shipments of Eee PCs to top three million for the year. The company plans to start delivering the Eee PCs later this month.

Intel is reportedly expecting the launch of the Eee PC would not only have a significant impact on Asus' brand business but on the entire notebook industry, especially since the ASPs of UMPCs have remained relatively high. Intel's planned introduction of its Menlow-based mobile Internet devices (MIDs) is likely to be adjusted.
