Mitac to Offer Asus Eee PC, OLPC Rival?

From Digitimes -

Wednesday 24 October 2007

Inspired by the Asus Eee PC cutting into the consumer market, Mitac announced that it is cooperating with MIND to also enter the low-cost PC market. Mitac's experience in niche markets along with the fact that the company will target the market for children age 3-12, could lead to an expanded market scale for both Mitac and Asus. This may cause OLPC, who currently only plans to target emerging markets but is not getting ideal results, to rethink its strategy.

Intel, who has dipped into the Classmate PC, Eee PC and OLPC projects will become the biggest winner in the low-cost PC market. If OLPC losses to Eee PC in securing large contract orders from emerging markets, then AMD might leave the project in order to seek another partner with which it can try to enter the market.
