Laptop Mag Reviews Asus Eee PC 4G XP

Laptop Magazine has reviewed the Asus Eee PC 4G Windows XP and given it 4 out of 5 stars. Highlights of the review -

LCD - The 800 x 480 resolution couldn't accommodate some programs but there's a system tray utility that lets you switch to an 800 x 600 viewing mode. You’ll have to scroll around but at least you can access vital command buttons.

Storage - The 4G SSD is simply too small since XP eats up almost half of the available storage. You will need to use a large SDHC card if you want to install large programs like MS Office or to access large data.

Summary - The Eee PC 4G XP delivers a good Windows XP experience without compromising on price or portability although more storage space would be nice. It uses the same chassis as the original Xandros model and is available in the five Surf colors.

Boot-up requires 40 seconds, compared to the Xandros' 26 seconds and the typical Windows' 60 seconds. The unit had no trouble running multiple applications, and programs loaded quickly even when with several programs running in the background.

Laptop Mag's verdict? - If you’ve been holding out for an affordable Windows-based sub-portable and live with a small keyboard and run apps off of an SD Card, the 4G XP is a very good choice.
