$100 Laptop Still $400, But Now With More Advertising

From Techdirt -

In an attempt to boost the needed economy of scale to lower production cost, OLPC is asking media companies to donate airtime and ad space for a marketing campaign to promote its "Give One, Get One" program, where customers pay $400 for an XO of their own, while another one gets donated to the foundation's cause. The aim is to achieve the volume necessary to bring down the XO laptops to the $100 price point.

In the meantime, the competition that OLPC honcho Negroponte hates so much is driving prices of other netbooks closer and closer to $100. It will soon be a matter of time before someone breaks the barrier, but it surely won't be the OLPC, with or without the competition.
