Bloggers, the Asus Eee PC, and the 7" LCD

Just as I have been predicting, it seems the Asus Eee PC will be a bestseller with bloggers, especially women bloggers.

In her blog Touched by An Angel, blogger Noemi Lardizabal-Dado talks about "regret buying the macbook because this nifty Asus Eee PC can fit snugly in my handbag."

Hers is fast becoming the standard reaction in several blogs that have featured/reviewed the Asus Eee PC. As she pointed out, the Asus Eee PC is on the Christmas wishlist of many a consumer even as buyers are picking up whatever stock is available.

When Asus finally manage to bump up production, we should begin to see a lot of bloggers hanging out in the neighborhood Starbucks, bloggin away on their little Eee PCs.

Question then is will we see a return of 800 x 600 support by websites since the resolution of the Asus Eee PC is a mere 800 x 480? Recent trends actually have websites dropping support for this resolution even if they have been developed to be fluid and adjustable.

Granted the Asus Eee PC is projected to account only up to 2% to 3% of total notebook sales next year but I would venture that a lot of those sales will go to bloggers. Besides the Asus Eee PC is being positioned as a surfing machine.

Moreover even as LCD screens continue to increase in resolutions, the Asus Eee PC's 7" 800 x 480 screen has proven to be adequate enough. Meaning it can serve as the baseline resolution even as its price continues to spiral down. Thus it is likely it will continue to be used by manufacturers to keep costs down as they chase the $199 price point.
