Interesting Theory: Asus dropped hard disk from Eee PC at eleventh hour?

From the Register Hardware site comes an interesting theory that Asus had originally planned to release the Eee PC with a standard notebook hard drive. The supposition is based on the the computer's manual which includes this part -

Asus' Eee PC manual

According to Register Hardware, there are two possible explanations. One, Asus' engineers are not aware solid-state disks don't have moving parts. That or Asus had originally planned to equip the Eee PC with a hard drive and changed its mind after the computer's manual had been completed. At which point, the writer merely did a find and replace for "hard disk drive" to "solid-state disk drive."

---------

Actually there is a third possible explanation - the writer based parts of the manual on an older one for an existing notebook model with a hard drive. He or she then simply did the copy and paste routine, followed by the find and replace process to change the model name, screen size, etc but forgot to edit the hard disk part. :)
