Asus Restructures, Employees Lose Pensions

Asus has finally split its operations into three separate companies as previously announced.

Effectively immediately, Asus, the main company, will focus only on notebooks and systems. The component manufacturing division, which produces motherboards and PC-related products, is now under a new company called Pegatron. The name is likely a reference to Pegasus, a name first considered for the original company and from which the name Asus was derived.

The third company, Unihan, will handle chassis and sub-component manufacturing.

Related to the corporate restructuring, all Asus employees were paid out all pension plans regardless of maturity as of January 1, 2008. All employees at the three new companies must start their tenure again.
