Taiwan players aim to set e-paper industry standards

From Digitimes -

Prime View International has announced plans to acquire E Ink, makers of the screens found in most ebook readers including Amazon's Kindle. This follows AU Optronics 30% stake buy-in into Sipix. Between the two, they now control the majority of the e-paper market. And in a June 11 forum in Display Taiwan 2009, the major players announced plans to set the standardization of hardware to accelerate the development of the content side, allowing the market to take off.

In related developments, Ryosuke Kuwada, president and CEO of Project Far East, said more color e-book devices may hit the market next year while SiPix CEO Andrew Ho said his company's Dual Mode Switching technology will be able to offer colored highlights on e-books by 2010, and full color applications by 2011.
