Asus Ion-based nettop in September and Eee Keyboard in October

Asus will launch its Nvidia Ion-based Eee Box and Eee Top, two ultra-thin U/UX notebooks in September, and its Eee Keyboard, a full-function PC that can double up as a multimedia hub, in October.

The 20" Eee Top features a dual-core Atom 330 CPU and will be priced at around NT$22,000 (US$668), while the Ion-based Eee Box will be priced at around NT$10,000 and the Eee Keyboard at around US$400-500.

ASUS pre-installs Japanese Eee Box PCs with worm, issues recall

ASUS has issued a recall for all Eee Box PCs sold in Japan due to a nasty pre-installed worm. The malicious code dubbed "recycled.exe" may attempt to download additional malware while attempting to replicate itself to attached USB storage devices at the first opportunity.

Gadget Zone has reviewed the USD429 Asus Eee Box and has given it a 3/5 rating. Positives are its relatively low price, ExpressGate functionality, small size, and light weight. Negatives are the lack of an optical drive, a flimsy front panel door and the minuscule 1GB RAM.

Overall, it is a cheap and semi-portable desktop if you're after a machine without an optical drive and don't plan on playing back any high definition content

J&R has started selling the Asus Eee Box, complete with Windows XP, a 1.6GHz Atom processor, WiFi, memory card reader, 1GB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive for $350. Black and white versions are available now.

Asus Eee Box Slated for mid-July

According to Trusted Reviews Trusted Reviews their source has confirmed that pictures of the proposed Eee Box that were leaked before are the real deal, adding that it will be available in both the black and white versions.

Other details remain sketchy, but ball park release schedule is "mid-July", with possibly Intel's Centrino Atom platform. Unfortunately there is no word yet on pricing.
