OLPC News Prediction: Diamondville XO Laptop in 2008

This month being December, annual predictions are starting to pop out. And OLPC News has started things off by publishing some predictions. (Note: Not sure if it is the site's official prediction or just the writer's.)

In summary, the prediction is that Intel will abandon the Classmate PC to focus on newer Diamondville-powered models. (Previous post is on the Diamondville - Intel readies 45nm 'Diamondville' CPU for low-cost PCs).

Other predictions - Asus will also crank an XO screen onto the Eee, include in it a Diamondville and within 3-6 months there will be an Asus-made XO laptop.

Intel readies 45nm 'Diamondville' CPU for low-cost PCs

From British site Register Hardware comes news that Intel is rumored to be launching a low-cost desktop PC platform codenamed Shelton. Shelton is based on a 45nm low-cost processor codenamed Diamondville, which can operate without a fan.

Shelton is also designed to work with 2-4GB Flash storage, and can handle handle parallel ATA and SATA devices, and other peripherals through six USB ports. Early board pictures show a single DIMM slot and one PCI connector. Not surprisingly, the list sounds just like the specs for Asus' desktop Eee PC.
