The national market of mini-laptops is about to take a beautiful chacoalhada with the August debut of the Mirax Freedom, a rebadged MSI Wind, with 10" screen 80 GB HD, and a 1.6 GHZ Atom processor. It is the first Atom-based subnotebook in Brazil and will be priced at BRL999 (around USD600) or about the current price of 7" netbooks.

Mobo gets rebadge happy with two new low-cost subnotes for Brazil

Mobo has announced two new but familiar-looking models, including the Positivo Mobo (pictured above), which appears to almost certainly be a rebadge of Asus Eee PC look-alike Airis Kira 740, which itself is likely a rebadge of some other model. Specs are almost identical - 7" LCD, Via C7-M, 1.3 MP webcam, and WiFi. Main difference is Mobo's has 2GB SSD compared to the Kira's 40GB HD. The second model, the Mobo Kids, is an Intel Netbook (aka Classmate 2) rebadge, with the same Celeron M processor and presumably all the same standard specs seen in other incarnations like the CTL 2go PC.

Both models will list for R$999 (USD590), with the Positivo Mobo to be available on May 23rd and the Mobo Kids sometime in July.

ASUS Eee PC used on ATM fraud in Brazil

Thieves here in Brazil used an Eee PC to perform an ATM fraud. The laptop was connected *inside* the machine so it would store customers' information and passwords. The criminals damaged all the others ATMs so the customers would be forced to use the hacked machine.

Even before the investigation begun, one of the thieves went to a police station to register a car accident. He was immediately arrested, as well as his two crime partners.
