Hacker restores Atom support for Snow Leopard netbooks

Russian hacker teateam claims to have restored support for Atom-based Hackintoshes running Snow Leopard 10.6.2. 
Apple had previously disabled the processor in a revision to the kernel in 10.6.2. The changes removed support for the Atom, leaving updated netbooks in a useless state.

teateam has successfully patched the new kernel with many users reporting success. However, executing the Atom crack is not a "point-and-click" operation.

Flash 10.1 Is Good News for Hackintosh Netbooks

One of the weaknesses of hackintosh netbooks has always been hi-def Flash but now Flash 10.1 has made HD YouTube and Vimeo videos almost watchable. While there are still some noticeable frame dropping, HD flash video (windowed and full-screen) didn't stutter like a slideshow, although YouTube encountered some issues with the CPU going into overload.

How To: Hackintosh a Dell Mini 10v Into the Ultimate Snow Leopard Netbook

Gizmodo has posted an in-depth guide to install Snow Leopard onto the Dell Mini 10v. Considering the cheapest Macbook cost practically $1000 and the Dell only $300, it is an attractive project for those with limited budget. Put it another way, the 10v becomes $300 Apple netbook.

How To: Hackintosh a Dell Mini 9 Into the Ultimate OS X Netbook

Gizomdo has a posted a guide to turn your Dell Mini 9 into the ultimate Mac OS X machine via the "Type11" install, which uses a $129 factory-fresh retail OS X install disk in tandem with a special bootloader that does the necessary tweaking.

What You'll Need

• Dell Mini 9 With 16GB SSD or higher (8GB SSDs will techincally work, but it will take some fiddling not covered by in the tutorial)
• Retail copy of OS X 10.5.x
• A USB flash drive 8GB or higher
• An external USB DVD drive
• The "Type11" Bootloader: DellMiniBoot123v8.01.iso.zip (download link in this forum post)
• Blank CD to burn bootloader image (I actually used version 8.0 of Type11 on my CD-if your boot process with 8.01 is different than what's spelled out in this guide, you can download 8.0 here. Both should work.)
• Windows PC for preparing the flash drive (if DVD drive works fine, this is optional)

Mac OS X Netbook Compatibility Chart

Boingboing has compiled a Mac OS X netbook compatibility chart. And based on the chart, it is pretty easy to see that there are only two choices - MSI Wind and the Dell Mini 9. Between the two, the former has a bigger screen and full function keys, so I guess that is why I have a MSI Wind U100 and not a Dell Mini 9. :)
