Asus Eee PC 900 has 30GB?
According to Ubergizmo Asus will be revising its Eee PC 900 by offering 30GB of storage space. However it is not sure if this will be a new variant or will replace the 12GB and 20GB models currently available. The new model will be available in black and white colors, Linux and XP. And other than the change in capacity, other specifications remain the same except, perhaps, shorter battery life due to the hard drive addition.

Asus offers $100 rebate on Eee PC 900, brings price down to $449

Asus is offering a $100 rebate on the Asus Eee PC 900, bringing the price down to $449. This is the slightly older model with the 8.9 inch display and Intel Celeron Processor instead of the Intel Atom CPU. The move probably indicates that Asus wants to:
a) differentiate the Eee PC 900 from the $599 Eee PC 901
b) move some 900 units, possibly in an effort to phase them out, or possibly in an effort to have them eventually replace the 700 series.

Asus denies cancelation of Eee 900 in favor of 901
Per Notebook Italia, contrary to our previous post regarding a Digitimes report ("Asus stops taking Eee PC 900 orders in preparation for upcoming 901 launch") Asus has denied that it will cease the production of 900s and will actually sell them alongside the newer 901 models.
The categorical denial of Asus reads: "The news published by DigiTimes is not true. Eee PC 900 and 901 have characteristics and different target sales. Eee PC 900 weighs less than 1Kg; Eee PC 901 will have a battery capable of reaching 7 hours of autonomy. Both models coexist to meet the needs of different categories of users. " According to Asus, orders for Eee PC 900 will continue throughout July, until autumn, when they will introduce the 901 model in Italy.

Asus speaks out on UK Eee PC 900 battery issue
According to Register Hardware Asus is bundling the 900 with a 4400mAh battery for the EU market and the bigger 5800mAh for the U.S. A Asus UK spokesperson confirmed this, stating, "Asus offers different solutions in different markets. In EU countries, we use 4400mAh [with the] Eee 900. However, we give a two-year warranty within the country you bought the Eee 900."
Asus has previously reacted to buyer complaints in Hong Kong on the same issue by offering free battery upgrades.

ASUS Eee PC 900 Available for Pre-Order
From Hot Hardware - Asus today announced the availability of the ASUS Eee PC 900 for the US, the third country after Hong Kong and U.K. Both Xandros and Windows will be available for the pre-order. The ASUS Eee PC 900 will officially become available in the US on May 12th.

ASUS replacing Eee PC 900 batteries with longer lasting versions

Not even 24-hours after reports starting flooding in over users receiving less capacious batteries in Hong Kong than expected, Asus is stepping up and doing the right thing by giving every single Hong Kong-based customer a free (5800mAh) replacement.

Asus to launch Eee PC 900 in the Philippines

Asus will be releasing the new Asus Eee PC 900 on May 12. Invites indicated that several variants will be available:
"This new generation of the ever popular PC packs in a whole range of hardware that includes an 8.9 inch wide screen, a 1.3M pixels web cam, the new innovative Finger Glide and 12GB and 20GB storage capacities for Windows and Linux platforms respectively – catering to wider consumer needs while still maintaining the “Easy to learn, Easy to work and Easy to play” concept by keeping the overall weight under 1kg."
Despite the increase in screen real estate and bigger storage volumes, it looks like the Eee PC 900 will still hover just under 1kg. Some models are actually already being sold at PC Corner at Php 28,999 for the 12GB+Windows or the 20GB+Linux combos (lower than the previous price of Php33,900).

Asus to offer free Eee PC 900 battery upgrade?
Digitimes has reported that Asus is considering giving a free Eee PC 900 battery upgrade to Hong Kong buyers who purchased their machines on the first day of launch following complaints that the company had mislead customers.
Several buyers have complained that the battery that came with their unit (4-cell, 4400mAh) does not have the same capacity as that of review samples(4-cell, 5800mAh).
Details of a replacement program, if any, will be announced at a later time.

Bit-Tech.net has dissected the Asus Eee PC 900 and discovered the following -
The main PCB is pretty much identical to the one used in the Eee PC 701. The only thing new is that the mobile PCI-Express socket is now used with a 16GB SSD module. Also, to give space to the bigger screen, the speakers have been moved into the base.

From Gizmodo, Asus has announced that the Asus Eee PC 900 XP version will have a permanent 4GB SSD and 8GB slot-loaded. The Linux edition will have a whopping 16GB of slot-loaded storage. Specifications below taken from Asus press release.

CNET's Asus Eee PC 900 Review
CNET UK has reviewed the Asus Eee PC 900 and concluded it is a fantastic purchase, although personally I would wait until Asus starts using the newer Atom processors.
Summary - Keyboard is still difficult to use, but the addition of a larger, high-resolution screen, multi-touch mouse trackpad and better storage gives it the edge over just about all of its rivals. It falls slightly short of a wholehearted recommendation due to the mooted touchscreen version and the huge likelihood that Asus will begin using newer Intel Atom CPUs, but for those who can't wait, it's a fantastic purchase.
