Asus Eee PC Supports 2GB RAM But...

From the Mobile01 forum, kevinj has reported upgrading his Asus Eee PC's RAM to 2 GB using a Kingston 2GB SO-DIMM.

In spite of the difference in the operating voltage - 1.8V for the SO-DIMM and 1.65 V for the Asus EEE PC, kevinj went ahead to determine whether the unit can operate reliably with the upgrade.

The Asus Eee PC booted up fine under Windows XP and easily recognized the 2GB RAM.

Test results prove operation is stable.

But over at the Eeeuser forum, member ayi45tw also upgraded his unit to 2GB but encountered a problem with the Xandros OS recognizing only 1GB even when the BIOS recognizes 2GB.

Asus Eee PC's RAM slot has warranty seal

From the same thread by XF-Team at the PCDVD forum -

Photo above shows a yellow warranty seal on the cover of the RAM slot. Does this mean if you upgrade the RAM yourself you void the warranty???

Asus Eee PC 4G RAM Upgradeable

In a post (no. 23) dated 2007-10-16 21:36 by shian0116 in the Mobile01 forum, he confirmed the RAM is replaceable in his Asus Eee PC 4G (not sure if 4G or 4G Surf though -

在背面有兩個螺絲
打開後裡面就是RAM的位置
把原本的RAM取下換上1G的即可

At the back there are two screws, remove these to access the RAM inside. Take out the existing and insert the 1G RAM.

The translated site can be viewed here.

Actually the entire thread makes for a good read - it is about installing Windows XP on the Asus Eee PC and was started by shian0116.
