Updated Dell Inspiron 13 appears on Dell Singapore site

There's a new Inspiron 13 on the Dell Singapore site and it's thinner, lighter and appears closer to the Inspiron Mini and Studio lines. Specs include 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330 graphics costs, an LED-backlit 1366 x 768 display, HDMI / VGA out, an ExpressCard/34 slot, and 1394, The best part is the price - it is just S$1,399 or around US$962.

Asus Eee PC 900 prelaunch in Singapore

According to a post by Visionary in the VR Zone forums, there will be 2 Asus Eee PC 900 models - 20GB Linux and 12GB XP both same price at ~US$499. Expect prices to be different in each country.

International Launch Schedule as follows:

UK - 15th Apr
France - 17th Apr
Taiwan - 22/24th Apr
Singapore - xxth Apr
Australia - End Apr or early May
Germany - May
Italy - May

First Asus Eee PC Sold in Singapore

Internet Siao Singapore has posted photos of the December 1 launch of the Asus Eee PC in Singapore at the Sitex IT Show 2007. Photo above shows the very first customer. Both black and white versions of the Asus Eee PC 4G (?) were available in limited quantities at S$598 each.

Spring Singapore Approves Asus Eee PC AC Adaptor Aug 29, 2007

According to SPRING Singapore's website, the Asus Eee PC AC Adaptor (model AD59230) was only registered on August 29, 2007 and given the registration number CPA PIE EAD 071483-11.

SPRING (Standards, Productivity and Innovation Board) Singapore has served as the MTI's appointed Safety Authority to administer the Consumer Protection (Safety Requirements) Registration Scheme (CPS Scheme) since 1991. It ensures that consumer products gazetted as controlled goods meet the specified safety standards and are safe for normal use. Registration with SPRING Singapore is mandatory before a controlled good (such as the AC adaptor) can be advertised, traded or displayed for sale.

Question now is if the Asus AD59230 adaptor is indeed the one that will be bundled with the Asus Eee PC, that means Asus could not have been able to launch the subnote in Singapore before Aug 29, 2007 even if they have previously announced an earlier launch date.

Well, it is always possible Asus has several types of adaptors that will be bundled with the Asus Eee PC. But given the numerous delays, it does make one wonder.

Asus Eee PC a no-show at COMEX Singapore 2007?

According to member Cooltoyz of the Philippine-based TipidPC forum, in a post dated September 04, 2007 10:24 PM -

"I was hoping it would be in the Singapore trade show so we can purchase one or if not at least try one. But it was a no show and when we asked the Asus reps, they just smiled at us."

You would think that with the announced delivery date of mid- to late-September so close already, Asus would take the opportunity to hype up even further the widespread interest in the Eee PC.

No FCC approval. No-show in a major regional IT event less than a month to launch?

Perhaps the Asus reps' were smiling Cheshire cat smiles, after all. And the joke is on us.
