Review: Sylvania G Meso

Wired's Gadget Lab has a review of a pre-production Sylvania Netbook, which comes on as yet another Asus Eee PC (900) wannabe.

But aside from the similar 8.9" screen, its other features sorely disappoint. The keyboard has chicklet-like keys, its Ubuntu OS surprisingly a disastrous implementation, and it battery just downright quirky. It also has a cartoonish styling, a relatively heavy weight (2.6 lbs), and sluggish performance.

Hands-On With the Sylvania g Netbook Meso

Laptop Mag has posted a hands-on review of the Sylvania g Meso. Early impressions - glossy black cover easily smeared by fingerpritns, comfortable size and weight at 2.6 pounds. (Compared to the 8.9-inch Acer Aspire one, it is thicker but the Acer is longer.) Keyboard is same size as the one on the Asus Eee PC 701 but trackpad has left and right buttons. Speakers located below the screen are muffled.

Specs for the USD399 model include 8.9" 1024 x 600 matte display, 1.6GHz Intel Atom, 512MB RAM, 80GB HD, Ubuntu Netbook Remix.

Sylvania to enter expanding netbook market

Sylvania has announced that it will be offering a 8.9″ LED-backlit Sylvania g netbook MESO. Specs include the usual 1.6 GHz Intel Atom, 2.2 lbs, multi-card reader, webcam, 80 GB HD. Available colors will be onyx, snow, solar, and blossom.

It will be available in either XP Home or Ubuntu Netbook Remix versions and will probably sell for USD299 at Walmart although the reseller has no official announcement yet.
