HiVision PW700B, Asus Eee PC 701, MSI Wind U100 size comparison

Here's a follow-up report to our first HiVision PW700B post. Today, we compare the PW700B's size to those of the two of the best selling netbooks - the original Asus Eee PC 701 and the MSI Wind U100. Like the PW700B, the former has a 7" while the latter has a bigger 10" screen.

We had initially thought the HiVision PW700B would be quite close in size to the Asus Eee PC. It is actually considerably smaller and lighter as well. However, it is still not as pocketable as even a large handset.

Origami R2H Style Eee PC 701 Prototype

Portable Monkey has some photos of a customized Asus Eee PC 701 touchscreen slate prototype inspired by the original Origami R2H device found in the Mobile1 forum.

It has buttons like the Origami device, is keyboard-less and is lighter at 760g. It even comes with a stylus and a has a storage slot as well. Apparently it is a prototype model which could possibly turn into full production.

Asus Eee PC 701 4G now same price as Blue H1 in the Philippines

In what appears to be a response to local rebadger Blue slashing the price of its H1 down to P9,995 (about USD212), Philippine reseller PC Corner has lowered the price of the original Asus Eee PC 701 4G (512MB) down to match the P9,995 price.

While this may cause problems for Blue, the big winner here is the buying public as it definitely means the price war has started. With upgradeable dual-core Atom based models expected by January 2009, we can expect other manufacturers to start reducing the prices for their current models. Hopefully the price war will expand to other countries as well. This is one war we definitely are supporting. :)

You can visit the PC Corner online store here.
