Asus Eee PC 1005HAB WiFi driver improves 1000HE performance

Some EeeUser Forums members report that the Eee PC 1005HAB wireless driver can be installed on the Asus Eee PC 1000HE to improve the latter's wireless performance since it is prone to lose connections. The new driver is for an AW-NE785 wireless card, while the Eee PC 1000HE has an AW-NE771 wireless module. As usual, please check your netbook's wireless module first before installing the drivers.

MSI U123 Netbook compared with Asus Eee PC 1000HE

I4U News has a comparative review of the MSI U123 and the Asus Eee PC 1000HE. Both are 10" Atom N280 1.66GHz processor netbooks with 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD and 1.3MP camera.

However the MSI U123 at 7.1" x 10.2" x 1.2" and 2.6 lbs. is lighter and less wide than the 1000HE 10.47" x 7.53" x 1.12-1.50" and 3.2 lbs. The former also comes in six or nine cell batteries while the latter has only the six-cell.

For those who put an emphasis on color, the U123 comes in four colors - metallic black, white, red, and blue, while the 1000HE is available in only black and blue.

Price-wise, The U123 is sold at $349.99 whereas the 1000HE is sold for $390.95.

So while the Asus Eee 1000HE may be the current bestselling netbook at Amazon, the MSI U123 is expected to give it a lot of competition.

Eee PC 1000HE Keyboard Plays Nice With Eee PC 1000H

Per ubergizmo the Asus Eee PC 1000H and 1000HE are able to share the same keyboard. The replacement keyboard retails for just $15 from Asus. In addition, the Eee PC 1000HE's battery seems to be able to work just fine on the older version despite Asus not selling replacement 8700mAh batteries yet. Bear in mind this compatibility test was done by Eee PC fans and not officially sanctioned by Asus.

Asus Eee PC 1000HE Uses Intel 945GSE Chipset, Still Plays 720p Video

Laptop has been testing a review Asus Eee PC 1000HE unit and has discovered that despite having the newer 1.66-GHz Intel N280 CPU, it still uses the same old Intel 945GSE graphics found in older netbooks instead of the expected GN40 chipset. The screen shot above shows the DirectX diagnostics display tab on the 1000HE indicating a 945GSE chipset with a 950GMA chip.

An Asus rep confirmed production units will indeed ship with an N280 CPU and the older 945 chipset. However the Asus Eee PC 1000HE does play 720p video smoothly (as did the MSI Wind U120 and the Asus Eee PC1000), raising the question why do we need the GN40. Perhaps, for gaming?
