From the Wall Street Journal dated August 28, 2007 -
TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Asus will launch its much-awaited low-priced computer next month, becoming one of the first companies marketing the ultramobile product for the developing world.
Developed in conjunction with Intel Corp., the Taiwan computer maker's laptop, with a 7" screen, also will come in a more-sophisticated model that will target developing countries.
A simple model will be priced at US$199, while one with more features will sell for between US$245 and US$299, he said.
Some analysts expect the low-priced laptop to sell well because of its mobility and ease of use.

Looks like the US$199 price is here to stay - but without the webcam and half the RAM.
